Change Their Lives GalaIt was an unforgettable evening for guests at the 9th Annual Change Their Lives Extravaganza. Once again, San Diego County residents, supporters, business and civic leaders gathered to benefit the children of Casas Seguras and its programs.  This year more than $240,000 was raised for Casas Seguras – a South Bay Community Services program for victims of family violence and their children.

True to tradition, the evening, themed Dancing With Our Stars, kept a lively pace throughout the night.   Over 400 guests arrived in gala attire to a spectacular display of silent auction items and a reception sponsored by San Diego Chargers, Sempra Energy and SDG&E.  Guest enjoyed the evening’s signature drink by Leblon Rum and bid on a vast array of silent auction items from get away trips to an action packed day with SWAT!

Doors opened at 7 p.m. and guests were greeted by Wayne Foster Entertainment as they made their way to their tables.  The UCSD Ballroom Dance Team began the evening’s program and the Casas Seguras children – our stars – followed with their own dance routine for the crowd.

The event’s chairs, Assemblywoman Shirley Horton, San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox and Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox took active roles throughout the evening.  Supervisor Cox and Mayor Cox assisted auctioneer Richard Houk with the Live Auction that included a Mediterranean Yacht Voyage for two, Super Bowl, Pro Bowl and an opportunity to sponsor a Mi Escuelita student.  A spectacular $70,000 was raised for Mi Escuelita students alone!  Mi Escuelita is a therapeutic preschool for children who have been exposed to violence in the home.  It is the only one of its kind in Southern California.

Change Their Lives GalaThe evening would have not been complete without the event’s traditional surprise dance production choreographed by Gretchen Productions.  Guest were not disappointed as the show featured some of our own local stars:  Assemblywoman Horton graced the stage with a wonderful waltz; Mayor Cox elegantly showed off her foxtrot moves, Sweetwater High School District Superintendent Jesus Gandara and his wife Jenny spiced things up with a Latin Cumbia Mix; and Chula Vista Police Captain Don Hunter and his wife Ranie wrapped up the show with sizzling rumba moves!

Finally it was time for our guests to show off their moves as Wayne Foster Entertainment helped them dance the night away!  It was a great night for a great cause  . . .  and we’re already gearing up for next year as we celebrate our 10th Annual!  So mark your calendars:
