Serving our community for more than 40 years!

South Bay Community Services (SBCS) is a community based nonprofit that provides a comprehensive range of services and programs for children, youth, and families in San Diego County. Our programs are for everyone at any time in their lives when they may need it the most. With our generous supporters, together, we are able to respond to the overwhelming needs of our community, touching the lives of more than 50,000 annually.

Our Story

We began our work as “Our House” in 1971 as a drop-in center in the City of Chula Vista where teens struggling with drug abuse could go for counseling and rehabilitation. As we worked closely with each youth, we learned that many of these teens were coming from homes with domestic violence issues, economic struggles or other stressors that were impacting every essence of their lives.

Out of this need, SBCS was born and has since grown into one of the largest multi-social service nonprofits in San Diego County. Today, there are more than 400 on staff stationed throughout the region in schools, police stations, family resource centers and affordable housing locations – including our main location in the heart of the City of Chula Vista.

While the times have changed and services have evolved, our focus remains the same: to restore hope and provide support for people to create the best life they can for themselves.

Our Mission

South Bay Community Services transforms communities to support the well-being and prosperity of children, youth, and families.

Positioning Statement

The health and wealth of our community depend on the well-being and prosperity of all San Diegans; however, 16% of residents - and 1 in 5 children - live in poverty, struggling to provide basic food, shelter, and health services for their families. Through comprehensive and coordinated services and supports for children, youth, and families, such as housing assistance, independent living skills, employment readiness and financial literacy services, mental health counseling, domestic violence and child abuse intervention, juvenile crime prevention, and therapeutic educational programming, we assist all individuals and all communities to reach their fullest potential.

SBCS is a community-based non-profit 501(c)3 - Tax ID 95-2693142.
